How do you transcribe?

When you transcribe songs, do you write down the lines or commit them to memory?

Or do you do both?

How detailed are you transcriptions compared to the original lines? (when do you start putting you own twist on it)
Any input on your process is welcome.

cheers,

Daniel

My only need to transcribe songs is when I'm being asked to play or record someone else's line verbatim. Even then, might just write out chords and make notation of key melodic points. Accuracy-wise, I think someone else would have to answer, but essentially I'm as accurate as I can be. When I need to.

But normally, I just commit things to memory, it tends to work better in the long run and I sound more natural that way.
