My $99 SX P copy is set up as low as my other basses. Lower, matter of fact, than my Geddy Lee, due to it having a flatter radius than the Geddy.

I'm having a "slap" bass built now, and the question came up "what kind of radius" I wanted, and when I told him I wanted it mainly for slap, even though it's a Jazz, we opted for a 9.5" radius, vs the standard 7.25" Jazz radius of old... It also lends to better string bending I find.

Just checked the old P with the 7 1/2" radius and that one is .074" at the 12th measured the same way so just under 5/64"
EDIT: brain cramp. 7 1/4 radius. Thanks for the memory jog Sam!!

Believe it or not, It was lower when it came out of the shop. I picked it up a touch , just because it felt a little too low. My instructions were to get it as low as he felt comfortable with, and I'd adjust it up from there if need be. He does great work.
I'd say mine is medium right now. Maybe medium low. I bought it new, so I didn't really want to touch the action.

Meh. As long as it's not two inches of the fretboard or so low the strings are touching the frets at all times, then I'm okay.
I really think this question changes a lot based on whether or not your instrument is fretless. I haven't seen the need to change either one of mine from the factory setup. Both are fretless, and both require much less finger effort than my acoustic guitar. I haven't found anything about the setup to complain about, so I haven't changed 'em.
I still really wouldn't consider them to be "medium", though. But I've got no fret-buzz to worry about. Meh. I'm rambling. I'll stop now.

After making sure that my bass' neck has the amount of relief I want (a tiny bit of bow for me), I set the action to 3/32" from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of the strings. Then, after checking pickups' height, I lower the G string by 1/64" and raise the low B by the same amount. I think that's med-low.
