how does action effect sound?

When I adjust the truss rod so the strings are higher off the neck, I get a rounder, thicker "bloom" to the notes.

When I adjust it so the next is straighter and the strings lower, I get more of a crunchy tiny bit of rattle and buzz when I dig in, which is a cool tone if that's what you're looking for.

So absolutely, action does affect tone.
