How does one get over bass / instrument hoarding?

I got a bit out of control this year and managed to go from 4 instruments to 34. This is combined acoustics, electrics, and basses. I wanted to have pretty much every wood and pickup type represented across the line-up. I think I've accomplished this, but it's just too much. Problem is, whenever I think about selling one, it usually has something unique that makes me hesitate. Like I was thinking about selling my MM Sterling, but it's the only MM I have, so I didn't.

I've managed to sell some, but not enough...how do I overcome this?

Quit your job.

I perfectly understand you. It happends to my brother and I. We love microphones so we have a collection of over 60 microphone of all types, from vintage neumann´s to new ones. We are trying to get them down to 25 for what we need them for (orchestra and choir recordings mainly). But it´s hard because every mic has something special as with basses.

Have gone through 70+ basses in over 20 years, it came down to a simple formula. My wife and I apply this to all our possesions. If you don't use it in a years time, there no need to keep it. I currently have 6 basses with one up for sale...Another policy that I've been working is on the fiscal end of it: if I want to buy a new instrument, I sell gear of equal (or close to equal) value to get it. That way I can go through all the fun of weighing the gain if one vs. the loss of the other.
Watching an episode of hoarders can help too! LOL

"How does one get over bass / instrument hoarding?"

If this is a sincere question:

After one wrecks his family's finances and 15 year marriage due to constant spending that may seriously be a symptom of a bigger, real condition (such as bipolar, hoarding, etc.). If it's a genuine impulse control/buying/hoarding issue, then you need help. I used to do the above.

Now, I'm a minimalist. One or two quality guitars and a great amp is all I need.

If this is not a sincere question, then carry on and ignore the above comments.
