How does this bass look for the price?

Looking for a something around $400-$600, how does this bass sound for $400?


"I have a White Custom Jazz bass for sale or trade. This bass has been gigged with extensively, and has minor wear and tear to prove it, but nothing to affect sound or playability.

Getting rid of her to switch to a fiver, and I can never hold on to the same bass for too long.

This bass started as a standard MIM Jazz, but quite a few things have been added:

All tuners have been replaced with Hipshot tuners, and the E Tuner has been replaced with a Hipshot D-Tuner

A Chrome Gotoh Bass Bridge

Dimarzio Passive J Pickups (badass)

Blue pearl tone controls

A beautiful Maple AllParts neck (quality controlled by Fender) with white pearl block inlays. Very expensive, so worth it.

All in all, well over $600 worth of aftermarket parts put in to make this standard MIM a work of art. In my opinion, feels and sounds just as good, if not better, than an American.

Thrown in will be a chrome thumbrest, and a light blue locking strap to match the tone controls if you can convince me to part with it...maybe even the hardshell case, we will see...

Asking $500 OBO, negotiable. Make me an offer."

due to my location buying online is my only option currently :-( I know having the chance to play both (or any) instrument would be ideal and a much better idea and way better, however I just don't have that option.

assuming they are both in similar condition would anyone have any opinion one way or the other?

I think you can find a much better deal on a Jazz bass here on TB. I've owned a Geddy and many MIM Jazz basses and I HUGELY preferred the Geddy.

I buy almost all my basses online... check TB, Music Go Round, Guitar Center Used, Amazon Warehouse Deals, eBay, etc. Wait until you find EXACTLY what you want. There will be incredible deals on basses as X-Mas gets closer and money gets tighter : )

looking at a black on black geddy for $550 in really nice condition, you think if I held off I could find a better deal on TB forums? I'm not in a huge rush, but I would need to decided on THIS one by tomorrow

But yeah. I'd say without being able to play them, the Geddy is a better bet. MIJ > MIM IMHO. Wow that was too many letters without making enough actual words.

The "custom" might have some crazy character and feel to it, but I don't think that's a gamble I'd take.

And I'm in favor of supporting TB members and buying online here if you can.

+1 This isn't a bad alternative. I just bought one very un-used for $250 with a gig bag and I'd be willing to bet it's as good as that MIM without the wear and tear. I've played bass for over 35 years and I've owned a lot of MIA Fenders. I wouldn't have bought that CV if it wasn't an nearly and equivalent of one of them.

Between the two I'd buy the Geddy for $550. To me that a great deal if it's in good shape and plays well. The other is worth about $400 if that and only with the case. His mods don't add much value if any. JMO.
