How important is having the original hardshell case to you?

To each their own. As long as the bass has not been altered, I wouldn't mind a replacement case.

0% important UNLESS it is some specially shaped weirdo bass that won't fit in a standard gig-bag. Then, Important. But the standard J, P Bass shape copies and clones, don't care.

For me the OHSC is nice to have. I always make a big deal of it when it's not present and I'm the buyer. When I'm the seller, I of course make it sound like it's a minor nuisance.

I could care less if it came with a case at all as long as I dug the bass and the price was right. Although, I would try and lowball the seller if it was missing the OHSC.

I am a big fan of Reunion Blues, Mono Vertigo high quality gig bag/cases.

A buddy of mine recently passed up a vintage P Bass that was, in his words, one of the best basses he’s ever played because it didn’t include the original hardshell case and that was the big dealbreaker for him.

His choice at the end of the day, but I think he’ll regret it. I feel like if it played and felt how I wanted I could get a new hardshell case from Fender. Thoughts? Do you feel the same way Is it a resale value thing for you? An authenticity thing?

Get a new buddy. I don't this one's judgement.

It's only a problem if it's an odd-shaped instrument that would be otherwise difficult to find a case for.

the inverse made all the difference recently with my T-40, the form case might have been a fit for my T-20 but that's it and $200 to ship it was a deal killer. safety in shipping was my only desire for the oshc, I have a big stack of softies as it is.
but tossing off a great old P re the op is nuts.

Having recently had to throw out a bunch of gig bags that were in my basement too long... I want *a* hard case. The original would be nice, especially if it has a molded interior.

But, I can always get another case.

For a collector standpoint, yeah, you want as much original stuff as you can. But life happens. I wouldn't turn down an awesome bass if it didn't have the matching hardshell case.

Not just vintage Fenders. As Wal owners want original cases too and will pay a difference if its there or not.

Depends on the price. Original hard case, no...some kind of case or gig bag? Possibly. For one of the best basses I've ever played I'd likely overlook that it didn't come with a case, but in general I like to have some kind of case or bag included in a deal.
