I can wear more than one watch at a time, but still haven't figured out how to play more than one bass at a time.

FTW!
Incidentally, my $25 Casio wristwatch automatically sets time and DST status; it picks up WWV's time signal every night and nulls out any errors from the internal oscillator drift.
Its style and tone may not equal that of a Rolex, but I don't care.
Yep and every bass will sound and play the same.
I love this place.
BTW reliable watches have been available for cheap for decades.
More than a century, really. Watchmakers were like cobblers or anything else, they were everywhere and offered products of all different qualities. To be honest, as long as there have been products for sale their have been various levels of quality and costs available.
Also, the wrist watch was originally a ladies watch, and only after men began wearing them did luxury watch guys really get into that gig. Most swiss luxury makers got their names established with pocket watches.

If you're still wearing more than one watch at a time, are you still using Aquanet, wearing parachute pants and playing pointy basses?

Does that mean that the overseas-made "boutiquey" basses are like the Rolex and Gucchi watches I can buy on the street in Beijing?

I'm picking up my Squier singlecut six next week Brad- aren't you?
Not that there's anything wrong with Squiers, but the notion that all bassists use their basses in such a inordinately utilitarian fashion as to negate the differences between them is a bit silly. A bowl of gruel for every meal the rest of your life may perform the same function as other food, but you're not going to get the same tastes, smells, or consistencies as other foods with it.
