How is the sound from a Gibson EB2?

I still have the EB-2 I bought new, strung with flats and played through a Dual Showman. I gigged with some great and picky players and everyone like my tone. The music varied from blues and small club folk music to acid rock/jazz.

If a bassist can't get good tone out of that set-up, get something else. It takes a different touch/technique than other basses I've used.

actually, I don't. I also don't like the EB-2 with a solid state amp. My RB-400 and EB-2 are improved by using Tubes in the signal path, but the Dual Showman was much better.

Sarcasm emoji! As a microcosm of the world it’s interesting how far we have to go for it to be okay that we don’t like the same thing.
I played an EB-2 for years bought used in 1968. I had a P and J pickup added but the wiring effectiveness could have been improved. I had the chrome humbucking cover replaced with a black plastic cover from my older EB-0. It looked great.
The plastic cover or no cover sounded better than the metal one.
I played it through a Showman on an Ampeg B-25 cab.
One gig with two Kustom 2x15 cabs powered by Kustom 200 head the Ampeg cab sideways on top powered by a Traynor YBA 2A. Emergency in Georgetown, DC 1969.

I have an EB-2 that I have had for about 35 years. It's got a Dimarzio One pickup instead of a mudbucker and it's the two pickup model. It is the one bass guitar I will never part with, no matter what.
