How long does your 9V last?

Just wondering, and if it lasts different amounts depending on the preamp being used.

Mine keep dying pretty fast, needing to be changed every 3 weeks to a month....I'm thinking about just practicing with the preamp switched off.

Also, does having the preamp off or the bass not in use save battery life, or does it tick away regardless?

The more you play it, the faster it will wear down. Mine usually last a lot longer than 3 weeks, though, but I'm very careful never to leave the cable plugged in unnecessarily. If you leave the bass plugged in on the stand, the preamp will stay on and your battery will drain much more quickly.

Pfft, they way I play. The battery melts in about five seconds. We're talking China syndrome here!





When I was gig'n, it would last about a month and a half. Now a days, quite a while.


Turning off the preamp when not in use or better yet unplugging the cord from the bass will increase the battery life. I've never practiced with the preamp turned off. On most basses the tone controls do not work with the preamp turned off.

mine lasts usually for a few months, if you leave it plugged in while not playing... that is your problem.

if it's on, it won't tick away as long as it's not plugged in.

my stingray went the best part of a year without me needing to change the battery... but I change it every 6 months just incase.

it depends on the battery and the bass though. my 5-string would need a new battery every 2 months, and I barely ever played it.

unplug it as much as poss.
Passive mode will still wear battery....I believe

I had a ground wire staying connected that caused battery drain, like you described, on a Lakland 5502.

Check that all wiring is correct.
Don't leave the cable plugged into your bass
