How long have you had your flats on?

GHS flats on my VM Fretless Jazz since yesterday......so far, I'm likin' them too!

I have 4 basses, all with flats. The newest strings are about 14 months old...that's when I got the bass. The others are between 4 and 7 years old.

The temptation to try something new has always been too strong, so my record is about 8 months. I only have one main bass and I hate to bring several to a gig.

My old jazz bass has had the same set if TI flats for about 5 years and they just keep sounding better all the time.

My experience has been that old flats sound better and better in the studio with age, but lose my favorite live tone over time. I have to bump compression too much to get good sustain. Im using quarter rounds on my 65 Jazz for gigging at this time.

I have a 9 year old set of LaBella flats on my SX P bass, a 1 year old set of Fender light flats on my pieces parts PJ, 2-day old D'addario Chromes on my P Lyte, and 2-day old D'addario Half Rounds on my Jay Turser Beatle bass. But I rubbed the new ones with chicken grease and olive oil and they're deadening up quite nicely.

I've got a mid 90s sterling fretless. I bought it from the original owner who said he put the current black nylon tape wounds on soon after buying it. So that's about 15 years..

The bass and strings are for sale BTW!

TI Jazz Flats on my fretless Corvette for well over 5 years. I dare say they'll prob be on there for another 5 years too, although TBH, I hardly play it, but even so, the strings don't seem to age.

Unlike the Roto SS swings on my Yammy Attitude, that I seem to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I had chromes on one bass for 10 years, then went to the dark side and put on some rounds! I quickly learned the error of my ways and went back to flats.

Current chromes have been on my fretted P for a couple months. I'm getting a set of TI Jazz flats to replace them for the holidays and the chromes are going on my fretless P.

Probably the last string change for a while.

I had a set of Lakland Joe Osborn flats on my fretless for eight years. I changed them to a different set only because I didn't like the guage. I'll probably leave the new ones on there for the life of the bass. My P-Bass also has a set (4+ years, I think).

Chromes on my Godin A4 fretless are fairly new. I like rounds on some basses (my Lakland 55-01), but for the most part I'm a flats guy.

I have over a year and a half on one set of TIJF's..... And I have a 12 year old set of Fender Flats that spent about 10 year on my SB1, and now get put on one of my other basses every so often.

I have several other sets of various brands and vintages laying around here.... from 1 year old TIJF's to unknown vintage Labellas. Flats are sort of like luggage..... you keep them forever.

Anyone using the Ernie Ball Flats 2806's? I have some on my Precision but they have only been on there for about a month. If you use them, how long have you had them on?

SX fretless - TI's 3+ yrs.
Yamaha 5 - TI's 5 yrs
Aria 4 - GHS ribbons (I think) around 12 yrs or more)
They seem to sound better with age. (or am I going deaf? )

G&L L2K has had Daddario chromes on it for about 5 years. Fretless (parts bass) has worn TI Jazzflats for 2 years (so far)
