How long will the system remember the last post I read in a thread?

Just clicked on a thread I hadn't continued to read for a few months, and it took me to the original post. I remember I was many pages into it the last time I had read any of it and was just wondering if there is a time limit for the system to remember the last post you read?

If not, maybe I was reading it when I wasn't logged on here. Just trying to figure it out.
