Out of all of them the little B50R with the Engelhardt is my favorite, killer tone! The line out even sounds good going into a board. It is just a fantastic little amp.

You’ve got the PF20T and the Micro VR. Can you tell me how different they sound in the same cab? I’m curious. I’ve got a Micro VR (with the matching 2x10) and got my eye on the PF20T because of… well… tubes! I wonder if the PF20T would get me closer to a mini SVT thing since it’s tube powered (hoping for fatter lows, wider mids and shinier highs, maybe). Don’t get me wrong, the Micro VR is pretty good, I just wonder about the differences with the PF20T, with the same cab.
I love them both. The Micro has a bit more snarl, and the 20T has a bit more smooth. They can each do both, but that’s how I decide which one to use.

It’s hard to really get an idea, I guess I’ll just have to take a chance and order one.

I’ve pared down all my amp gear to just the essentials these days. It’s all about a good balance of sound, power, and size/weight to me these days, so this is what I’ve settled on and I love my setup…
- Peavey MiniMax 500 + 2 Aguilar SL112 cabs (electric rig).
- MarkBass CMD 121P combo + New York 121 cab (upright bass rig). I have a separate rig for upright because I switch between EB and URB in one of my bands, and I can’t be changing amp settings between songs. And there’s just something about the way URB sounds thru my MarkBass - it’s perfect.
- TC BAM200 (backup head). This isn’t a particularly great sounding head or anything, but it fits in the pocket of my spare bass bag and it’s good to have when I’ve needed it. It’s an early one, before they started having problems melting down. Mine’s always been reliable for the 7 or so years I’ve had it. For the $150 I paid for it new, it’s a good investment to save a show if my main amp fails or gets forgotten (which happened about a year ago, leaving in a hurry).

I just picked up a mint used Fender Rumble 100 to add to the herd and did the suggested mods to include Structural internal bracing to dampen the resonance of the 1/2" plywood, as well as adding casters and some polyester filler. The casters pop off the back and it angles the cabinet up so it is not blasting into my legs. The 20lbs is fantastic after lugging around the Ampegs. It actually sounds quite good with an upright for the stuff we do. It also seems to help with feedback. For $225 and another $75 and a couple hours of time for the extra stuff I did it was a no brainer. Great inexpensive little amp! I play with an all acoustic group, violin, upright and 2 acoustic guitars. It more than holds it own! I haven't had to use the DI yet but it's nice to know it is there. I compared it to my B-50R, B100R, and Phil Jones Session 77 and it for sure holds it's own. Both Ampegs will play louder and the Session 77 really works well with the 53 Kay I mainly play. The Session does have a much more defined high end but it also has a 3" tweeter and costs quite a bit more. In short if something ever happens to it I will get another one used as they are all over the place for sale and would highly recommend it for a beginner or someone who has played 40 years as I have. This is coming from a maniac that owns 10 combos plus my big rigs that have been in my studio storage collecting dust for 10 years. In short I could live with it and the little PJB only. My days of moving an SVT Classic head and an Ampeg 1528 cabinet around are over.

Owned several amps over the years, the best of which was a Demeter VTBP-201S into a QSC PLX-1602.
I got rid of all my bass stuff a few years back, but couldn't shake that lowdown affliction.
Got a new bass guitar and DI box, not sure I need anything more for now - I use a small mixer and headphones to practice with which sounds great.
If I run into a situation where I need more, I'll probably get more - so many great options these days!
