I've up to about thirty basses and one guitar, and it's an oddity, a 1927 tenor (four string) 'the gibson' guitar. For perspective, I owned only one bass guitar from about 1964 to 1996 (the same one 75-96), but a number of factors (including getting my kids through college) started me sampling some additional instruments. I barely touch any of my four string ebasses, and I'll likely begin to sell most of them, along with unusual fivers I don't play, this year.

Other than one custom Hoyt semi-hollow body fiver I spoiled myself with, recent acquisitions have been ho's. You can get a lot of instrument for little dough these days.

6, 3 Hofner Icons one natural finish and 2 in special colors of only 150 made in each color, one transparent green and one in black cherry, one Squier classic vibe jazz bass white with tort guard, one LTD EC Les Paul bass and one Dillion Ric copy, ( good copy ) but many come and go so this could change but these 6 are keepers

I rarely play the '61 Gibson as I have it inside a glass shadow box on the wall. This was my uncle's bass that he bought new and gave it to me on my 10th. birthday in 1970. He was more of a guitar guy and never really played it. I played it a little as a kid but then lost interest and started playing the drums. It sat in its case until I was about 20 and got interested again. At that point, I decided not to play the '61 that often and just keep it as a remembrance of my uncle.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot one. I have a Fender Mex Jazz I bought about 20 years ago. I keep this bass in a case in my backyard shed. When I go outside to have a cigar, I bring a laptop and plug in. Amazing that being kept out there winter through summer, the neck never got destroyed from changes in temp and RH. They must make 'em good in Mexico! LOL!

Yamaha BB-450 (that's my babygirl, Gladys)

Fender Precision '78 w/Badass II bridge (that's my wife, Agnes. Bought in 1981) Solid as a rock.

Fender Jazz Signature Series Geddy Lee '09 (I bought this to emulate the physicality of my Yamaha which is the most comfortable bass I've ever played. Geddy sounds better but Gladys is still more comfortable)

Fender Jazz fretless (Mexican) 2010 (got this from a friend on the cheap. Sounds great. I keep flats on it to emulate an upright but I'd love to hear it with rounds)
