How many basses do you own? (Currently) Part 2

I'm not sure Mark. All I know is it looks like this.

Saw it going for £90 which is quite cheap, UK prices on anything being 15 to 20% higher than in the States.
Was lucky came home on Tuesday to find it leaning against my door, no security door in my building so the
idiot delivery guy just left it, no card through the door if it was stolen I'd never even known it had been there,
lousy courier.

Any idea what the pickups are ?

Those are the VFLs. The switched pickups in the 90's. Actually those aren't true VFLs.. They were a bridge between the old Super Ferrite pickups and VFLs.. I think they were labeled as "high output single coils" or something similar.

Thanks Mark. They just say Peavey and I've not checked the date but it starts 074
so would be one of the later ones.

Thanks again for the info. As I've never heard Super Ferrite or VFLs I'm none the wiser.
Good thing too I can just enjoy the bass and not have those " Pity it didn't have ? "
moments.

3 hot rodded budget basses. 4 string.
Because some of us are poor, and have to find cheap ways to slowly bring our instruments up to professional standards.
This method is often frowned upon by some, but Ive found that a mid level instrument is a perfect canvas for trying out part upgrades.

1. Epiphone Les Paul Special Bass
Specs: trans black, all mahagony, set neck
Mods: professional pinstriping job, SD Basslines Humbuckers, Black hardware switched to chrome.
2. Parts P/J copy: Hipshot tuners with extender key, LQ Baddass II, SD Basslines jazz bridge p/u.
3. Kramer Focus P Bass copy: SD Basslines p/u. graphite nut.

None cost more than $300 stock. After all the upgrades, I prefer the epi and the parts bass to almost anything. Sounds crazy, but its true. A good tech, quality parts and decent stock materials are all you need imo.

Hoping to make it 6 tomorrow. Found a Gretsch semi-hollow body on craigslist, always wanted a semi-hollow so hoping it pans out.

Good choices marineman227. You seem to have most things covered but a Gretsch semi would be
a fine addition to the flock. Good luck with that.

A mix up yesterday cost me number 18 but hopefully we're back on track today.

I now have 9...

'90 Peavey Foundation, 90's Danelectro Longhorn re-Issue MIK, Epiphone Zenith, Epiphone EB3 SG type bass, DeArmond Pilot MIK, '80's Guild Pilot USA made, Hofner Icon Violin Bass. Also have to cheapies-a no name Chinese violin bass and a Huntington P bass copy, also Chinese, I think...

Update - the Guild Pilot I ordered early yesterday arrived about 11 AM today...just tuned it and set it up roughly...this the best bass I own now, and I expect I will be selling some of my others shortly.
I like them all, but I'm out of room in my house - I have 50 guitars as well as these 9 basses...

ADDED. Love that Guild Pilot, and saw another in Royal Blue, a fretless...It got here Friday, so now I have 10 basses...FWIW, both the Guild Pilots were made in 1987, are 118 serial numbers apart...

Old Mark 9 Basses maybe some would say you're got Bass Hoarding Personality Disorder stage 2.

I say look at the graph. You're in the majority. Surely though the 50 guitars are just an attempt
to fill the void left by having just 9 basses, sell 40 guitars and buy another 9 basses you'll feel
much better. And have plenty of space in the house.

Haha you're right! I said "just three" because up to the standards of Talk Bass, three basses is a pretty small collection LOL
