How many excuses do you take before canceling an order?

Have you spoken to anyone at the manufacture / distributor? Try to do that! That will determine who's B-S'n who! ( is the store lying or the manufacturer? ) I ALWAYS do that after the first delay. Sometimes company's feel like they can get away ANYTHING they want because they never have to deal with us end-users. When you get in THEIR ear stuff usually happens. Good luck!

Who cares whose fault it is? The only one who is actually out something is the op...the guy who doesn't have his gear and who hasn't BSed anybody! It could be the retailer, or the shipper or the manufacturer but rather than try to solve the problem he should cancel NOW. Problem solved!

If you had to put down a deposit, make sure that you won't lose it if you cancel.
Sometimes these clowns will pull that on you as a way of keeping your money. And if you can cancel without any penalties, make sure you get some dated proof that both parties agreed to the cancellation with out you being charged anything. I hope it works out for you. )-(

that happened to me. of course it happened at GC. they said it would take about two weeks to get there so i call back about three weeks later andthey say it did not ship. they say two more weeks so i wait a MONTH and call to see if its in. they said it was and to come down and pick it up. i get there and the same guy i talked to on the phone tells me that there was a miscommunication between Gc and the manufacturer and the item has not shipped. never again. get it somewhere else.

I ordered a replacement neck from a company and was told it would ship the following week. I called a week later and they said at least 1 more but not more than 2 weeks. I called the next week and cancelled.

How many excuses do you take before canceling an order? Bass gear, but I am not naming a manufacturer.

I have been waiting on something for a while I was told it would ship out on may 3rd at the latest. May 5th I ask if tis shipped and there is something gumming up the works. Next week it will ship...

I wait 10 days and call back(13th or so). Its something else and will ship on friday.

May 19th I call because 2 weeks have passed and this time its something else. Always someone else's fault. It will ship out by this friday they say(the 23rd). I get home on the 26th and look for a tracking number. None. I call 2 times and leave an email all by the 27th. Nothing.

I call again on may 30th and they say once again it will ship by the end of this week. So I am thinking that if it does not ship by friday I will have to cancel the order. I needed the product May 12th. I sold the other cab I was replacing because I assumed May 3rd at the latest meant May3rd or before.

I like the people I am talking to, but its just getting out of hand. I have had to borrow or rent bass cabs in place of this cab and it has cost me $70 which dips into how much I make at shows. Also, I HATE having to be the guy who borrows other peoples crap.

Am I out of line here in canceling the order this Friday if it does not ship.

WOW! You and I are having an identical experience. I wouldn't be suprised if we were waiting for the exact same product.

I've had many customer service/product sales interactions lately and they've all been bad. As many people have already mentioned there seems to be an epidemic of bad customer service. It seems like lying to the customer is now a regularly accepted business practice. I'm always patient with people but I think I'm too patient and I'm tired of bickering with people every time I order something. It is a rare occasion when companies meet or exceed my expectations, and I have pretty low expectations at this point.

I've come to the conclusion that the only way to fight back is to not give them any more of my money. In some cases this is harder to do than others. But I can't think of any other way I can show my displeasure and get my point across. I suppose one could try to haggle some kind of discount to remain patient but YMMV.

Good luck and I feel your pain. My little rant made me feel better. I may be able to wait yet another week :-).

Sometimes legitimately things get screwed up. It happens in all business environments. What I can't accept is being lied to. If you screwed up tell me what happened and let me decide what I need to do. I can be more understanding of a problem if it's being handled honestly. In your case I would have done everything I could do to cancel the order and get my money back, or tell them to provide a loaner until your order arrives. That is another benefit of buying local when possible, sometimes they can get you through the situation.
Reality is in business when a company starts having success and giant leaps of sales it takes a while for them to ramp up production and ramp up support. Conversely when a business is struggling they downsize in all areas and the same results occur. Ideally a company should be prepared for growth but in most cases they can't and won't hire for future growth. So there is a period when production and service take a beating. It sucks to be a victim of this event but it happens.
Some times sales people do their job to make a sale only to find out the company they work for doesn't have the cash flow to buy the goods to meet the deadlines. There are all kinds of scenarios that aren't your fault but become your problem.

Yes, I know most of you with experience in the business world know these things. I don't like it and if it happens to me I'm angry just like most people would be. Does that mean the store or manufacturer should be stoned or burnt at the cross? Does it mean they won't recover and return to being the company whose success enabled them to grow in leaps and bounds?

Good luck with your situation and I respect that you didn't name the company or store at this time.

Maybe we would be surprised who the company or store is and some of our endorser peeps would have to jump to the next brand.

I need to buy a guitar amp right now and buying local is starting to look like a good option. "In stock? I got cash."

True, it's gone on long enough. All I'm saying is at the FIRST sign of trouble, call the manufacturer. That USUALLY makes things happen quickly. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. No matter what happens now, it has gone on WAY too long.....

I would have cancelled a long time ago. They lied to you and thats the worst thing they could do. I would understand if they said we are having a problem and its going to take a while to get them in stock. But they lied 2 or 3 times and thats unacceptable. Cancel your order and get it somewhere else. I havent had bad experiences with music stores but I dont really order much online. Usualy just strings for the bigger stuff I would find a store that has it in stock.

IME, when we allow this kind of behavior from companies who have track records of treating their customers like garbage, we tell those companies that it's OK to treat us like that. By us continuing to do business with them lets them know that our threshold for patience hasn't been met yet so we don't mind waiting. However, we DO mind waiting and I, for one, can't stand being told one thing and having another happen. As consumers we have a responsibility to let these companies know that we will not stand for lying, bad service, and disrespect.

Personally, I would make sure that what I wanted was readily available somewhere else and then I would go ahead and cancel the order, but don't stop there. I'd also send an email stating the reason you cancelled and also that you, as a customer, will not tolerate service like that from anyone. It's not that they keep having problems that delay your order. It's the simple fact of not respecting you by telling you up front the honest truth about what's going on with your order. You deserve that from anyone.

I'd cancel the order. I had the exact same issue recently with a company that gets a lot of love on this forum. I was told it would ship mid-January, then absolutely by the end of February, then mid-March, it finally showed up in mid-April. They had my money in mid-December. Never their fault, blah blah blah. I had my finger on the phone to dial a few times to cancel the order, but I never did.

It was my last time to deal with the company.

+1

IN fact, IMO they pushed it beyond acceptable after the 3rd time.

I think that, following a runaround like that and them not coming clean, you should use the power of the internet. Publish the company name.

Barring that, they should have at least refunded your $ until things ACTUALLY worked out.

It is always a heartbreaker, since you have time into the deal, but sometimes you have to wonder if there isn't a karmatic reason you don't have it. Maybe you will find something better, cheaper, whatever. You'd be perfectly right to cancel the order. I went thru this with Carvin - ordered a bass combo amp, kept getting excuses, finally after 5-6 weeks they tell me it is out of production and will not be coming back.@#$*#!! But I like their equipment....so after buying a different rig I go back to them for a powered sub. I do tell them when placing the order that I need someone to confirm it is in stock, to confirm when it ships, and how they jerked me around the last time. Just because bass players hold the bottom down, doesn't mean our patience is endless!
