How many excuses do you take before canceling an order?

I would have already canceled it if I were you. You are a very patient person to wait as long as you have. I don't think that most people would wait that long for something, let alone a bassist waiting for a cab.

Option # 2

I had a very similar experience, having to rent gear while waiting for my order to arrive three weeks later than promised. I was able to talk to the retailer, we got along on the phone. He offered to lower the cost of my amp by the amount I had spent on rentals. I stuck with them and now I order from them regularly. He may have lost on the amp profits but has made it up by keeping me as a customer. If they will not work with you. Bail. Good luck

First, if you rely on your cabinets to make your living, you should not have sold your old cab before receiving your new cab. This is called "counting your chicks before they hatch" and as we all know sometimes they don't all hatch.

Second, I understand you don't want to bash the m'fer here, but as a guy who is looking at some of these independent cab makers I'd like to know if there's a reason to steer clear of any of them.

I wouldn't do it though just based on one person's experience -- I'd search around here to see if it's the norm. Sometimes these small companies need to learn a lesson the hard way that honesty is the best policy.

Maybe it's against tb's rules. But I'd sure like to know some of these "companies" that do this, so I can steer clear of them when I'm ordering.
FYI I have to order any piece of equipment because the closest stores are an 1.5 hours away

I had a guitar hand made for me in Spain and had a huge delay in shipping. the manufacturer was cool but it was the shipping company who lost it. It got 99% of the way to me and then was stolen at the shipping warehouse- that was the reason for the delay- they didn't want to admit they had lost it.

How many excuses do you take before canceling an order? Bass gear, but I am not naming a manufacturer.

I have been waiting on something for a while I was told it would ship out on may 3rd at the latest. May 5th I ask if tis shipped and there is something gumming up the works. Next week it will ship...

I wait 10 days and call back(13th or so). Its something else and will ship on friday.

May 19th I call because 2 weeks have passed and this time its something else. Always someone else's fault. It will ship out by this friday they say(the 23rd). I get home on the 26th and look for a tracking number. None. I call 2 times and leave an email all by the 27th. Nothing.

I call again on may 30th and they say once again it will ship by the end of this week. So I am thinking that if it does not ship by friday I will have to cancel the order. I needed the product May 12th. I sold the other cab I was replacing because I assumed May 3rd at the latest meant May3rd or before.

I like the people I am talking to, but its just getting out of hand. I have had to borrow or rent bass cabs in place of this cab and it has cost me $70 which dips into how much I make at shows. Also, I HATE having to be the guy who borrows other peoples crap.

Am I out of line here in canceling the order this Friday if it does not ship.

and add a lot more lies and it sounds like my last dealings with Eden.

:rollno:

Then, of course, the equipment I eventually got was faulty. Then started round 2, 3, 4...

After being kicked in the face so much by them, while they smiled and patted me on the back, I've resolved to play hardball from here on in with everybody. My advice; gas them now. Maybe they won't screw with you next time.

Cheers,
Cameron

I'd be upset too if I felt that a company or retailer was lying to me about
when I can expect to get a particular product
that I'd bought from them. I'm a very patient guy if you tell
me it'll take a few days or even 6 to 8 weeks or whatever.
Just tell me the truth up front, even if you think it's gonna' be
be a few months.

Now as one who used to help run a shipping dept for a large
furniture and appliance and electronics retailer, I've had to
suffer the other end of the spectrum of customers not wanting to hear the
truth when I told them how long it would take. I'm serious when I've had people
whine about having to wait 5 to 10 days on big orders going cross country. It
takes awhile to book with LTL truck lines for large shipments.

The funniest abuse I got was from a person who waited until the last second
on a christmas eve to buy a digital camera for their daughter that they wanted
to ship it to her via UPS and they expected it be to her place that very day!
I politely told them they'd missed any chance of that happening, and we offered
to ship it out 1 day air on the 26th to get to his daughter by the 27th on our dime!
No! This was unexceptable! The customer told me to go to hell, and that
I'd ruined their Christmas, etc, and he'd be suing us and all that crap.
He ended up canceling the order and that was fine with us. Not every
company lies to their customers about shipping time frames.

Its a small manufacturer. I called on friday asking for some sort of repayment on their part or to cancel the order. I called later in the day and I know they are a couple of busy people so I expect to hear back on monday. ;/
Yep, counted the chickens before they hatched ...dumb.
