I know that I could probably find this answer by searching and then wading through a huge number of posts that really do not pertain. (as an aside, if you wanted to find information on what I seek in this post how would you search for it?)

At any rate, I am looking at picking up some permutation of a 212 cabinet, most likely from Avatar or Dr. Bass. I have the choice of 4 or 8 ohms. I will be powering the cab with a Peavey T-max head which gives 350 watts at 4 ohms, less than that at 8 ohms and 500 watts at 2 ohms. The 212 will have to suffice for awhile but I am planning on expanding to another cab in the future. with this in mind would it be better to get a 4 or 8 ohm 212 cab? Thanks!

I'd go with 8 ohm cabs and here is why. 2X cabs in parallel = 4 ohms. This is no problem for most any amp. 2 (4 ohm) cabs in series = 2 ohms and that pretty much locks you into a mono bass head and eliminates big power amps bridged to mono as most if not all won't run at 2ohms bridged. If you never intend to used a bridged stereo power amp and are sure you will always use a bass head than buying 4 ohm cabs would never present a problem.

I say go with the 4 ohm. You'll get more volume now, and since your head goes down to 2 ohms, you can always add another 4 ohm, or even two 8 ohm cabinets later. Plus, if you decide to get a different head, there are plenty that go down to 2 ohms.
