How Many Songs Are On Your Playlist?

Just curious to see how many songs the bands on TB play.

One band has a playlist of about 55 that I want to increase to 120, and some other members think I'm crazy. I've seen bands with a playlist of 2-300 songs, so I know it's not impossible.

The other band has a playlist of about 80 so far, but we do all requests, so the number seems to increase each time we play.

How about everyone else?

We are new to the scene with 45. We play, usually, around 36-40 per gig.

That's a hard question for me to answer. There's probably 100 or more songs we've played, but there are a whole bunch we dropped, or just haven't done in a long enough time to make calling it out mid gig problematic.

We've actually been pulling some tunes out of mothballs and playing them recently. (Sometimes it's ugly!)

It's better than where we've been pulling things out of for my all-request band. And it is ugly (my arse, not necessarily the music). Each week, 40-60% of our show is stuff we've never played together as a band or individuals.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 150, but that includes the jazz stuff we can pull out of our hat.

I voted 50-100, but that's because we're starting with a new guitarist/singer. Otherwise it's probably about 130 (and I'd like to add more to make the band more versatile).

There’s a big difference between 50 and 100; I’d have split that somehow. Anyways, that’s were we are with the new covers band, around 60.

We’ve put a couple on the back burner, but we’re adding quite quickly now.

Occasionally the guitarist just starts jamming something (that someone musta requested or something) that I’m familiar with, and I usually come up with an appropriate bass line, and someone who knows any of the lyrics does his best, and it usually turns out good enough for (drunk) people to dance to, haha.

A separate project, originals (not really for playing out), is moving very slowly, haha…

no pressure, I guess.

About 130 songs. We have dropped some and added some over the years and also put some on the injured reserve list after getting tired of playing them a lot and then bring them back after awhile.

11 right now, but we usually only play 8. Soon to be 12, but we'll probably still only play 8. Original sets are fun because they're capped by time and 45min is the usual. Sometimes 30 min. Those are lame, but whatever... We still play them too.

My regular band knows about 80 songs. I was recently asked to fill in with another band for a gig because they fired their bassist. After learning their material, my personal playlist increased to about 130 songs. I love the challenge of learning new songs! It's very satisfying.

Our band . . . Haragán y Compania . . . has 12 CDs of original songs as of now . . . 100 total songs . . . . . .

We usually play around 20 songs at a show . . . the most time that we have played (at a show) was 3 hours straight . . .

We have 12 songs on our playlist, 11 of which are originals, and one is a cover of Glen Campbell's Try A Little Kindness. Hopefully we'll add a few more songs in the coming months, as soon as our songwriter puts the finishing touches on them.

120 or so is probably pretty common around here - weddings in Poland run much longer than in most Western countries, and they probably need material for 10 sets. Add some wedding-inappropriate reportoire for playing other kinds of parties, and 120 sounds about reasonable for a working band.

My main band has 30-odd songs that we all can really play, and a few more that the singers can do if they've got lyric sheets, but we're pretty new and only play bars.

We've just finally reached the point that we're getting our stuff together to get out and gig. About 35 songs we can actually play, and another dozen on the list to work on in the immediate future.

200+ and whatever our guitarist / lead singer pulls out at a gig. Generally if he wants to do a new tune we'll get an email a couple of days before the gig (our general mode of rehearsal is everybody rehearse their part at home and play it together on the night of the gig). Every now and then though, he'll just start playing a song, call out what key its in and hope that the rythym section has a vague idea of how it goes. It can certainly keep me on my toes.

Our set list is 56 songs. But when we add a song we take one off, so we've played probably about 100 so far.

We are playing at a Live-Stage Night Club in Athens/Greece. It's a 10 piece Band plus another 10 Singers. (and 8 Dancers). 6 nights/week. We start at 12.00 am and usually play till 07:00 am (it'a almost open end though - Saturday night often goes beyond 8:00 a.m.).

The band plays non-stop. 2 drummers rotate about 4 times and the others take a 20 minutes-break after 3:00 a.m.

We almost never play a whole tune - it's mostly Intro Verse Chorus (2nd Intro Chorus).
That makes 1.5 to 2 minutes for a song. 30 per hour and overall 200 to 300 tunes a night.

Over 200 in my main band, 65 in my R&B/funk band, and 42 in a blues band I gig with a couple times a month.

I spend a lot of my driving time listening to those three band's songbooks on shuffle mode just to keep them in my ears.

I voted 100-200, but it depends on the band. And really, we'll play almost anything if someone in the band knows it and can guide us through. We also have a tone of stuff on out iPads that we don't regularly play but can pull up and "fake" as needed.

Right now we're doing 7 originals and a cover. That ends up passing the usual 45 minute mark (long songs). We have a few news songs in the works, and a couple more covers to learn.
