Double Bass How much does your bow weigh?

I play a French bow that I have made. Most of my French bows weight 128-130 grams. They are a little on the lighter side, but not terrible. I believe a well cambered and balanced bow is going to give you a great response on the strings. Not necessarily how heavy the bow is. That’s just my opinion as a bow maker.

I currently own a W.R. Schuster (german) and it's 129g. I'm also currently trying a Berndt Dolling which is 141g. However, the Dolling has a frog made of bone that is 10g's heavier than the Schuster frog. Does anyone know if the weight distribution makes the difference or is it the total weight that your arm has to pull across the string?

How does the bow feel? Does it have a fair amount of bounce? Do you think it would be more difficult for beginner/intermediate player to use a heavy snakewood bow than a lighter one? This question is for anyone. Thanks!

The bow is a little more difficult to play than one of standard weight, but it allows the capacity to crate effects that are difficult to match otherwise.
The sound is massive (loud with a strong fundamental) yet clear. Not always the best choice for an orchestra section player, but excellent for chamber ensembles where there is only one bass.

This is the only bow that lets me perform with a grand piano at full stick.

As for the bounce, it does have a fair bit. I think that it grips the string a little quicker.
I’m not sure if I would recommend it to a beginner. It can ware you out quickly.
