How much input do you have on set list??

How much input do you have on set list??

Since I make out the set list the answer is quite a lot.

I'll limit my comments to the current band I'm in since my second band played its last gig last week. But everybody picks and brings to the band whatever songs they want to do. Generally speaking if somebody brings it, we play it unless somebody has a very strong objection to it. I can only recall getting resistance from our guitarist once when I suggested 'Money For Nothing' but I'm quite sure if I had pressed harder we would have played it but it just didn't matter that much to me and since I don't sing and have to depend on one of the other fellas (or girl) to sing a song I want to play I figured I'd pick my fights carefully.

For the most part everybody is pretty cooperative and everybody likes an eclectic collection of tunes. As an example below are the songs to be added this week.

Yakaty Yak - Coasters
Lying Eyes - Eagles
Start Me Up - R Stones
Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton and Kikki
Addicted to Love - R Palmer
Jingle Bell Rock
Centerfold - J Geils Band
Go Your Own Way - F Mac

We have a group discussion and it's pretty much a democracy. I've always been lousy at making good set judgements, so I just leave it to them anyway. That being said we do sometimes change on a whim. The other night one of the guys started two tunes that weren't on the list just because the mood felt right. We went with it.

Yeah, we'll do that at rehearsal occassionally, just to make sure we haven't "lost" a tune we don't play frequently, but it's pretty rare at a gig, unless it's something we've got down cold and it just wasn't on the list for a short set or something. We've changed one or two up on the fly for one reason or another, but in the past year, I can only remember doing that once.

Our show and the set lists are generally pretty rigid for 4 - 6 months before we make many changes.
