How much wattage do you gig with?

Power Amp- QSCPLX1804=550watts into 8ohms per channel

Enuff to ward off any guitard or heavy-hittin drummer, yet lite enuff to avoid any spinal degeneration.

I think that in most cases, it's a matter of never ever needing that kind of wattage, so most people have zero interest in it. The super wattage heads are such supreme overkill for most people that it's hard for them to even fathom it.

Hmmm. I don't really dig the big cabinets, but I'm still intrigued by the prospect of having 1000 watts at my disposal. Especially with the speaker technology available today.

Right now, I have a 1x15 cab that can handle 700 watts, and if I run my power amp bridged mono into 8 ohms, I can feed it that much power.

I like the idea of having that much power in such a (relatively) small package. It's overkill, but it's still practical.

I am in a 6 piece band. 2 drummers and 3 guitarists. I run 850 watts at every gig we play. We do not play gigs anymore without a PA. Even when we were playing smaller venues, I played with my same rig. I would just dial it back a little on the volume.

800-1000 for me. I have to get above 2 metal guitarists who for some reason thinks everybody over in Austrailia needs to hear them as well and a drummer. All of the shows we play we have very little monitor support and if we do have monitors the bass isn't in any of them.

Most of my gigs lately have been all about stage sound, not FOH so I stick with my 100 Watt Ampeg BA115. This is with a drummer and guitar player who both know how not to step on toes sonicly...

However, if doing a louder gig I'll bump it up to 300+ with my bigger rig

I always have 1000 watts with me, but on average I use about 700, maybe a bit less.

I run a Tech 21 RBI, through a Crown 900 Watt Stereo amp into two USA MADE, Ampeg SVT410HE's. Run them at half power off the amp, shape the eq through the Tech 21 and control volume off the guitar or a volume pedal.

I also use a wireless Audio Technique 700 series multi channel with three separate receivers; one for each stage unit. If there must be an instrument change, all I have to do is punch in the channel and away I go.

Versatiler, powerful, when I need it to be.

I suspect the amount of 300 watt SVT users may be why that catagory has so many hits.

This isn't a 'how many watts do I need' thread. I'm just wondering what everybody else is using. Please vote in the poll. Also, vote based on what you use, not what you have available...ie...if you use one 8 ohm cab, don't vote for your 4 ohm rating.

Typically, I'll use a 300-350 watt head when we have PA support. I've used more, and I've used less, but I find that 350 is enough for most of the stuff that I do.

For most gigs one channel of my Stewart World 2.1 (650W) is enough. Sometimes I play loud rock gigs with no PA support where one channel doesn't cut it... in those cases I bridge the amp.

Normally I use a Markbass LMII into a 4ohm load and it covers unless I end up doing an outdoor or large (A) show I will bring out a rack rig with Crest 8001 with a 4 or 2 ohm load depending on stage layout.

100 watt Ampeg V4BH (just picked up my 2nd one, as a backup). Those things sound great. Plenty loud enough, even for outside gigs. If I need more, I have a Demeter VTBP-201 powered with a 1200 watt power amp.

I used to gig with a 300 watt BE*^#$@ER amp... plenty of volume , no tone. Moved on to an Eden Nemesis 320 watt head, same power a bit better tone, moved to an Eden WT550 which had a killer tone and which ran at 700 watts at 2 ohm with two eden 4 ohm cabs, now i am waiting on my Acoustic Image Focus 2 which will run the same Eden cabs at 2 ohms and 1000 watts! cant wait. Mind you , 300 watts is still enough.

Thunderfunk 550A = loud and punchy 500 watts @ 4 ohms about 325 @ 8 ohms
Carver/Claire Bros Rack = 600 watts per channel @ 8 ohms...

The TF is a very efficient clear and clean 500 watt head
The Carver-Rack = is beyond rediculously clear and clean with that kind of headroom

I want the MESA Carbine M6 with 600 watts @ 4ohms.... It's a little bit heavier than the TF to carry, but I absolutely love the whole vibe out that thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I roll with (2) Peavey 8x10 cabs and a 700 watt firebass...i will turn it down for smaller rooms...LOL...I am going to add a couple of 2x15 cabs to that and get another head...

450 watts from an svt3 into a 210 and 15. In the near future it might be more like 1200 watts into a 210,212,115 or a combination of the 3.
