How not to ship a bass guitar

There is advice here Invalid Link Removed and here How To Pack a Guitar for Shipping that I was looking at last night.

I saw a lot of folks saying it was a $25-35 expense to ship. I figured their numbers were old and that it would be $40 or $50. But $80 before packing is crazy. The size of the case just made this one really expensive.

I had a Pedulla Thunderbolt 5'er for sale last year and needed a box. Went to the Guitarwal Centermart at Clackamas Town Center and asked if they had any, and walked away with a free Dean guitar box that fit the bass perfectly.

Packed the bass in tact in a gig bag and shipped it from the Fed Ex location at Washington Square for just over $40.

I can vouche for the crazy ship-at-store ups prices. Price to ship a jazz bass, with packing and insurance in OHC, from MI to IL? $214. I promised the buyer the bass would be shipped so I went ahead and bit it like I was biting my own arm off. Wont do that again...:banghead:
