How special is YOUR bass?

Pickgaurd removed, Gameinformer sticker, and added Rotosound RS66LB 35-90 strings.

Added black tuning keys and easily seen cheap SUB bass logo

Cleverly put sticker on battery compartment.

It's special because it's my first (and only) bass. As seen in the pictures you can see my messy room and how I have added some modge podge stickers, black tuning keys, and removed the pickgaurd for better thumb access on the pickup. By the way, the stickers are from the Gameinformer magazine. Don't ask me how I got the idea, because it was just one of those stupid ideas that I get.

This Bass is special because I built it from Warmoth parts. It's got a P-Bass neck and I made it 5 strings so the spacing is narrow. The search continues for the perfect pickups though. I've got some Bill Lawrence jazz pups on the way....hopefully.

This one is special for being a 1st year JB-2 that my wife bought for me.

This one is special because it is the first Warmoth neck I had built back in 1988 and I will keep it until I die. It's been on many bodies, but this configuration with Geezer pups, tuned to D seems to be the one that will stay together. (edit: the Geezers are in there now...just an older picture.)

Special to me means that it is unique and offers something no other bass has, not to be confused with rare.

I agree to a point. Other than a personal connection to an instrument, rarity or scarcity of materials or custom-ness is really all you have. Not much on a production solid-body in any price range isn't available to everyone, certainly nothing in the electronics.

Lots of really cool looking instruments!
I guess that they are mostly pretty special, but they can't do much by themselves.
It's really the player that makes things special.
Jaco's pawn shop Jazz Bass wasn't much until he played it.
Anything special about Babe Ruth's bat?
If having a bass that you feel is "special" inspires you to play it, then it is in fact special.
The three basses that I own are not special in any way, but they do get played a lot.

I hear ya, but man o man---> when ya own a piece of art that feels soo good in your hand, and is able to produce the "sound in your head" without effort, PRICELESS--- it's ONLY an object, but also an inspiration and allows you to express "you" more easily--- the Dolphin and I are a team i have other basses i like but the Dolphin; it's /\/\3.

Love that! An interviewer was talking with Chet Atkins once and went on and on about his guitar, it's awesome tone, etc. Chet took his guitar over to a stand and put it on it. "How does it sound now?" he quipped.

FWIW, Babe Ruth's usual bat was 36 inches long and weighed 42 ounces. Compared to a typical bat today, that was a LOG.

Yeah, the flame is incredible in that bass. The Warwick guys were clearly on their game the day that bass got put together. Without a doubt, a very special instrument.

Why is it so special? Because it's mine. It's cheap and not particularly good (although it did surprise some musician friends I know) basically only a rank beginner would want to bother with it. Well, I am that rank beginner. I paid $55 for the whole setup: bass, amp, gig bag, strap, etc. It's a "throwaway" and I know that. It's never even had an actual tune played on it (that I know of). That changes tomorrow with my first lesson. Yes, I am that much of a noob.

I know it's not much and at some point soon I hope to be wanting to upgrade but, until then, this is it.
