How special is YOUR bass?

Your right. Sound and feel are the most important in choosing a bass.
But it is always amazing to me how we make comparisons to the less fortunate or physically challenged. Not to be an arse but if you where "blind" you wouldn't know what color it was unless some one told you. And I seriously doubt you would fuss over it if it played awesome and sounded amazing. Your not blind so color matters. And I will add that woman love shiny pink guitars. Definitely a conversation starter.

That's right ...and that's why I said "currently" I would not buy a Pink one...because "currently" I am not blind.
And if I was blind and a bass sounded awesome and played beautifully I would consider it special to me.
I don't see any issue in comparing blind to non-blind. There have been blind musicians at every tick of the clock throughout history.
Since sight is not a guaranteed thing, any one of us could end up blind at some point in their lives. No guarantees on anything.
Personally I don't need a shiny Pink guitar to start a conversation with women...........starting conversations with women has never been a problem for me....
It's always amazing to me how any reference to a person , that, at the moment may be less fortunate than ourselves is considered an attack on them.
Simply referencing a person is not an attack on them.
But you can compare the constant TB bass adoration posts about what a bass looks like.........and how people obsess often more about what the bass looks like or what famous player owned it before. They will gladly sacrifice playability and a number of other points, concentrating instead on the visual appeal factor.
The visual appeal alone often makes the bass "special" to these people.
Even comes down to color......typical post:- "I LOVE that bass...but it only comes in Red and I want a Green one......so I'm not buying it".
So in my view...if I was a blind musician......none of the visual-appeal factors would make any difference........Green, Red, Spalted, Tort Pick-Guard, Gold or Silver knobs....whatever......none-issue.
If I ever go blind..........just don't sell me a Pink bass.
( Going by your assertation:- I'm 6ft tall...there for I must never talk about people that are shorter than me in regard to bass choices because that would be an attack on a less fortunate person?)

My first ever bass build is pretty darn special to me.
I think there is a slight misunderstanding of my post.
I didn't get the assumption that your were "attacking" the less fortunate. What I was trying to say was that often times people like to say things based on level, cultural and societal comparisons that IMO are pretty unbased. For example, a friend of mine says, "You only need one bass because in poorer countries they can only afford one bass and they make the best of it". My reply to him and others that make these type of statements is that it is ludicrous to compare living in an developed capitalistic society with living in a non one. The same as your posting to state that, "if you were blind".
I stand on the misunderstanding of why we as humans have to make statements that we feel the need to compare our opinions and feelings to those that are not in the same spectrum as ourselves. I'm 6'5", 340lbs. I don't and will never say I'm fat compared to the starving people in Africa. I will and do say I'm fat because Iive in an over indulgent country called America.

I have an obsession for wood. The musical kind.
I gotta say, having owned over 60 different basses, and tried God knows how many more, I'm really liking the sound and feel of my Roscoes (same models, and basically the same foundation woods, same p'ups and guts). I've never played such a GOOD low-B string, not even Dingwall (tried them at NAMM once, didn't get it). Modulus is the only other bass that can compare, imo.
Once you play a Roscoe, you are ruined for other basses. I doubt I will play anything else for a while.
I build my own basses...it's kind of therapy for me. My most crazy is my 7 string hollow body through neck Headless fretless..it's pretty wild:

Although my most common bass to play is my 4 string fretless with marbled ebony fingerboard, through neck and Music Man pickup...it's loaded with flat wounds and nails the "pino" tone totally.
Wow, you are one talented guy. You make it sound like building a bass is simply putting aside a few weekends. I am so envious of your skill. To me, having the ability to build your own bass is like being an auto mechanic. You end up saving thousands of dollars and you get what you want. Your basses are RAD !!!
I feel the same way about USA Lakland's. Just wish I could afford more.

This carvin is special to me because it's hands down the best playing neck and most vicious sounding jazz bass I've ever owned and I've had sadowsky - r bass - mayones - and this little monster killed them all in tone and playability ... Sooooo underrated and under the radar these basses are ... The epitome of that 70's nasty jazz tone is right in this photo... And it weighs in at 8.4 lbs...
I never owned a USA Lakland but had a few Skylines and they are awesome. Can only imagine what a U.S. is like.

I have one that I love but hate because my other basses don't play as smooth. I never believed the extra money was justified in the difference between the two until I actually played one in comparison. There IS a difference. I thought the Skylines were awesome and still do. But there's that extra something that messes you up. I would love to send all of my other basses to them and get them to play like my Lakland. Get one, you won't regret it.

We'll be prepared to fall in love with it !! I'll be ordering a JB-5 chambered soon..... I HOPE it will be under 9lbs... Every damn one in stock is 10-12 lbs!..... I think I got a really special one with this one....

I also have an Ibanez SR885, which I've owned for more than 20 years. It still plays and sounds great. I always received compliments when I played live and from recordings.As stated in the title, How special is YOUR bass?

My bass isn't very special, to anybody outside of me. Just another Made in Japan SR885, which is by no means a "nothing special" bass, it really does sound fantastic, but I'm pretty sure at least a dozen others on here own one.

My 1984 Electra-Westone PJ bass is pretty cool. Really well made in Japan at the Mastumoku plant. It has some cool features, like dual tone knobs and a out-of-phase switch.
My MIM P bass has a Nitro-booster preamp on a switch that can scoop or boost the mids. It can be bypassed.
My Bronco will have a Lace Dually Red/Silver with a blend knob when I finish it. Just waiting on a custom pick guard to really start there, since the pickup mounts to it.
My fretless will have a SM-3 SD pickup, and ramp on it when I finish along with an active system with bypass and passive tone. Currently ordering parts.
