Double Bass How to clean my bass body??

What can I use to clean my doublebass, without making any damage to the wood?

I'm actually interested in this as well.
I have a good guitar polish, but it's meant more for the high gloss polyurethane finish you find acoustics.
My assumption is that with any oil varnish you use a dry microfiber cloth (planet waves make good ones) and if you have a cheaper bass which is definitely not oil finished then maybe a guitar polish would work.
of course assumption can be the mother of all f**k ups, so it's probably best to wait for someone with more experience than I!

I've never had to use anything other than a dry cotton rag. IME, an old t-shirt leaves less fiber dust than even a microfiber cloth. What are you trying to clean off of your bass? Maybe at the most, follow Eric's suggestion to use some warm water to dampen your cloth.

Kolstein has a kit with a cleaner and a polish. The cleaner worked nicely for me.

It's a solid body--the dark maroon color. It plays great but I rarely use it. It was an unasked for gift from my wife

Yes, exactly. But then, they have to "new and improve" everything. Yesterday's lemon is today's orange.
I do the same with my bow, too. You just have to be careful of the hair-- or gut strings come to think of it.

I've been using it or anything else my wife cleans the end tables with all of my playing and married (same thing) life
Finished wood is finished wood I always thought.

Pantyhose. If it's too stuck on for pantyhose to get off, just wait until you send it down to your luthier for a tune-up. Pantyhose is good for getting rosin off because it's really, really fine. It doesn't leave any residue behind and it takes on rosin like a magnet. You can also use it to get rosin off your bow stick.

I must have oily hands, but I have never ever had to "dress" a fingerboard or a fretboard for that matter. I guess if you play five, six--sometimes seven-- times a week the boards don't get a chance to dry out. I think basses are like cars, if you don't drive them they go to hell.
