How to connect my SansAmp Programmable DI

The SansAmp box is described as a 'Pre-Amp' so I'm wondering how I should connect it to my GK MB800. If I run it into the bass input then it goes through the amp's pre-amp, is this ok? Or should I/can I run it into the 'return' on the amp and bypass the MB800's pre-amp?

You can use it either way. Some guys run them directly into the main input and use it like a stomp box. If you do this, play with the active/passive selection on your head (if it has one) to see which sounds better.

Running into the effects loop typically bypasses the amps preamp stage all together, effectively turning the GK into a power amp.

I would say try both and experiment. Find what you like best. The Sansamp is a nice versatile, piece of gear. It's one of the few things I'll never get rid of.

I run mine directly into the main input. I got it initially because it gave a mediocre amp a lot more punch and versatility. I'm playing through an SVT& Pro now but still use it as a stomp when I go from pick to finger to thump/pluck styles. Great piece of equipment no matter how bad ass your amp is and you could even just use it alone if so inclined. I know that's blasphemy for guys who love a big stack behind them (me being one) but I think Geddy Lee uses nothing but DI these days. And the programmable version gives you a ridiculous amount of options. Running into your preamp won't hurt a thing but it all boils down to what sounds good to you . Good luck!!
