If you reconed it yourself, and you thought removing the terminals was a good idea, I'm sure that everything else about the recone is also suspect. Too bad, that was an excellent driver, much better than the Beta 12 (by a long shot)

A properly reconed driver will function identically to a brand new driver of the same model.

I see botched recone attempts all the time, it's a lot harder to do a quality job than it looks. Details matter very much, including cleanliness and tight tolerances.

This terminal works with Eminence speakers. Note it is not ¼", it is 0.205".

Properly crimped connections are every bit as reliable as solder, likely moreso. This is based on my experience with several million crimp connections.

Properly is key. A guy trying to use a pair of needle-nose pliers for crimping would be better off soldering, but that must be done properly as well.
