How to fill a nut slot properly

When shimming a nut from the bottom, what is the choice material to use for the shim?
If it's a cheap plastic nut it hardly matters what you use. Otherwise I prefer to match the material of the nut - bone to bone, Tusq to Tusq, etc. In a pinch I superglue the nut to a business card, trim to the nut when it's dry, then saturate the shim with CA. Makes a pretty hard shim that can be worked a bit if needed.
