How to find model and serial # for 90s Samick Bass?

Hi bassers,

I'm trying to find the model and serial # of a fretless Korean 1990s Samick bass that I just bought.
It's very nice with a built-in chorus effect, but the output gets louder and softer without touching the controls. One control is very "scratchy & static-y" when moved, but quiets down when left in any position.

Could this be a pre-amp problem and how can it be fixed? (I just replaced the 9volt battery, which made the bass louder but did not cure the problem) Any ideas or info would helpful.

Incidentally, I play very "plain" roots bass with acoustic instruments so I am looking for a bass sound closer to an upright.

Thx,
