How to fire someone from a band

i have to let a cat go in a couple of weeks. i will tell him that it's time that i move on. i expect that he will be sad/mad, but grownup. i will offer him another role(s). i expect that he will pass on that offer, but who knows?

i don't know how much longer i will have the ability to play. i don't want to 'play out' my final moments/gigs with a sub-par player who believes he is better than he is.

he's a drummer.

actually, he'd be perfect and save us a lot of headaches (administrative stuff). but, alas: i think he'd pass because he wouldn't get to play much, if at all. but you never know unless you ask!
