How to fix chips in poly finishes

I have a beater MIM Fender jazz bass in natural ash finish. It has a bunch of chips in the poly/clear coat that I'd like to try my hand at repairing. I'm not that concerned that they look perfect, just that the chips wont get worse.

Most of the tutorials I've seen online involve fixing paint chips in guitars that are painted, but not so much with just clear coat poly. Can I just use a wipe on poly and sand until it looks ok?
