True, only some of it. I've slapped a bass before, but it was the 90s.

Don't know if this is mentioned yet.
Have your bass wired direct to the output jack.
Bypass the tone controls.

Gordon Smith guitars used to have tone pots that took themselves out of the circuit at maximum travel.

Or you could add a switch, which still gives a tone control option. Edit: as I demonstrated yesterday, it only takes disconnection of one wire.
