How to go about buying new pickups?

I recently decided to make my old 4-string my dedicated 'heavy' bass. I was gunna put some heavy gauge strings on it and change out the pickups cause I'm not a fan of the sound my old ones have anymore. I was just wondering what's the process you do for putting in new pickups? I understand there's wiring that needs to be done and such but also do i have to take measurements so that I know the new pickups will fit nicely into my bass? It's an Ibanez BTB btw

Thanks

But seriously; it depends on what pickups you get. Certain pickups have 2 wires, some have 4. Some pickups are shaped different than others. Some require different potentiometers (knobs.) Some are active (battery powered) some are not. Just do some homework. There's tons of resources all over this forum alone. In the end if you feel overwhelmed, have a tech do it. Having pickups swapped is about the cheapest mod to have done.

Good luck!
