how to increase forearm strength

Working on cars or any trade that has you use your hands..

This exercise is waay better than wrist curls though:

Saw a round broomstick into a 2 foot section, drill a hole through the middle, pass a string through it, and tie it to a weight(trust me, even 5 pounds will be enough)

Now, roll it up, and roll it down.....very s-l-o-w-l-y(especially on the descent), working up to 20 minutes a day or more

Your forearms will become IRON, I promise.

Here is one you can buy(type in "wrist exerciser" on ebay):

Ohhh broseph!!! I totally forgot about that. There's another way of doing this exercise:

Just grab a dumbbell, pick it up with one hand gripping each side and rotate it.

PS: Strange position not necessary

Does it make the tone warmer? Fill in the bottom better? Does it add mid range and puch? Or does it accentuate the upper harmonics?

I think hitting a bag on regular basis does wonders to your punch! :ninja:

You guys are making me want to go to the gym. Say with me: beeeeeeeefcake.

I bought a piece of very dense foam at the Home Depot. I cut it into a few small pieces just larger than the palm of my hand. I keep a few of them around the house. I squeeze them 40-50 times in each hand times back and forth between hands a few times a day.

Go rock climbing. That'll have your forearms begging for mercy after a very short time, and if you putter around at the climbing gym for an hour or so 2-3 times a week, you'll notice a huge increase in strength. On top of that, it's a great full-body workout, and much more fun than doing endless reps of whatever in the gym...at least that's my $0.02
Chin ups are pretty good too, with palms facing away; the broomstick rolling exercise and squeezing a ball are both used by climbers to get stronger grip, so they are definitely effective.

Work on cars. A lot. Like I do. I have 15 inch biceps, and 13 inch forearms.

yep, simply engage in activities that require frequent handling of hand tools and/or heavy objects.

here are the three best things i've ever done to increase forearm strength:

1) worked in an electric motor factory on the assembly line and in the machine shop. this was during a period when my training was transitioning from a bodybuilding format to powerlifting. while improving my efficiency at work (hard to explain briefly) my grip and forearm strength increased at an alarming rate. i quickly developed a goal of forearms equal in diameter to upper arm. never quite reached 18 1/4 forearms but nearly 16 is menacing enough.

very effective and not at all practical.

2) performed chins (body weight and weighted), shrugs, timed barbell holds, and timed hangs (with and without weight), all on a regular basis to enhance grip strength for deadlifting maximum pulls without my grip 'giving out'.

equally effective and slightly more practical.

3) the previously mentioned broomstick/rope/weight device.

80% as effective as 1&2 above and more than sufficient for anyone simply wanting stonger forearms and grip strength. without question the most practical approach i can think of.
