One big difference is that the iRig must be plugged into a phone or iPad to work. The NUX works with just a bass and headphones— so if you are practicing without backing tracks no need to tether yourself to anything.

I think there is a lot of ingenuity coming from people on this site. "More than one way to skin a cat". Can't thank you all enough. I'm amazed at all the different ways that have been recommended when I wasn't aware of ONE when I started this thread 24 hours ago.

Again, I just ended up getting the iRig 2. Should be delivered Saturday morning. I'll see how it goes. If it doesn't mesh well, or seems to be under performing or a bit cumbersome, you all have provided me with many different ways, some more expensive than others, but again, many different ways to achieve the goal I want.

Definitely some good people on this site.

Can you record stuff to you're phone with that? (iRig 2)

I'm thinking that if it does it would good for those "I need to record this riff before I forget it" type moments
. . . especially if you can send it to bandmates

Irig 2 is actually very hand, But it needs analog input from the iPhone. i.e. the Headphone output.

If you have an really old iPhone you might have a analog headphone jack. If you have an iPhone 14 or older it will work fine if you have the Lightning to TSSR adapter. These adapter actually have a DAC converter chip in them. These are Good for CD quality sound at very low latency.

If you have the "Camera" adapter for lightning you can actually use many of the USB compliant interfaces that you'd use on a PC instead of the iRig 2.

If you have a new iPhone 15 you can directly use USB-2 interfaces which I know works fine for iPads with USB-2. Or a USB-2 to TSSR adapters with the iRig 2.

All these options can be confusing for people just getting started with IOS options. ;)

I have been using a Korg Pandoras box for years. I think the one I have is the PX-4. I don't think they make them anymore but you can find them used for like $50.

Yep…picked one up yesterday. You're right, they are small. I'm gonna keep everything hooked together to try to cut down on losing anything.

Hi, for your needs just get a second hand zoom B1on (old) or zoom B1four , that's what I did to play with headphones with backing tracks played from my phone (or other device), plus you get a simple but functional multi-effects. I got one used for 40 euros. Even a new one is not too expensive.

If you don't want to be messing with software, audio drivers and new "workflow", you can get a basic, small analog mixer to do what you want to do.

Line out from amp into channel 1, music from phone into channel 2, plug headphones into mixer. Mix to your taste.

A basic Behringer, Mickie, Alesis mixer for under $99 would suffice. If you want a smaller form factor and fewer buttons and dials, check out the range of Rolls line mixers.

I've been using my SWR Super Redhead and Spellbinder Blue amps. They have 'parallel' loops (most but not all amps have) which blend the effects 'return' signal post-preamp with your input into the front of the amp. Kill the speakers and use headphones for those 2AM practice sessions...

I think it's far more common for the effects return (or input) to interrupt the signal from the preamp right before the power amp section -- therefore nothing plugged in ahead of that shows up at the output. And nothing plugged into the effects return shows up on the line/headphone out. At least that's how it is on the OP's GK amp.
