How to make pickups 'feedback'?

Hey all!

So recently I was listening to a John Entwistle isolated bass track, and at the end the notes had a weird ring when decaying. I'm not sure if this is the amp or anything, but it sounds interesting. Also, if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it as I'm new!

My little 2x10 will feedback with only 140 watts if I just stand facing the cabinet while the strings are vibrating.

Enwistle used a lot more gain and distortion than most players. That will always make it easy to get that sort of feedback from the amplifier rig. Billy Sheehan does similar stuff.

pickups feeding back is bad, it's a nasty, piercing squeal that won't stop until you turn down.

what the ox had going on there was the strings feeding back, where the sound was just so loud, with so much overdrive, that the speakers were making the strings keep vibrating; that's awesome for guitar, but kind of unusual for bass, entwistle stood out for using that kind of sound for bass.

Wow. I didn't actually understand that was how the feedback happened, that's amazing to me. It does sound interesting on bass.

Nope, that's the string feedback I was talking about that entwistle is using. Pickup squeal doesn't stop when you grab the strings.

Not to brag, as if smaller is better, but I've gotten feedback with a Frontman 15B.

Rest your headstock on the cabinet and have some compression (distortion or otherwise) and enough volume. Let it ring.
