I haven't read the whole thread and I don't know if someone said it already but of course the optimal solution is to convince your neighbour upstairs to play guitar and the one downstairs to play drums, and form a trio

How to play bass in a condo? Please help!

Check out the Phil Jones small amps such at the double 4, etc. They sound great for their size and sound good at low volume. Also Phil Jones sells a headphone amp called Big Head Pro. Both of these have Aux input jack so you can feed your tracks or TV in and play along. They also have a couple of battery powered amps such as the Briefcase. So you can take it outside and play. Both amps have enough power to play with a small group of acoustic guitar players should you want to play a coffee shop or bluegrass jam.

I use this, very high quality along with studio quality cans. The headphone amp is very good, DI is top notch and I/O flexibility is good allowing you to play along with other sources.
The NUX Mighty Plug Pro is worth a look. I use mine with Sennheiser 599 headphones daily and it sounds great other than the occasional unexplained high pitched sounds. It goes away with a slight wiggle of the device. You can stream Bluetooth audio to them. I've had mine over a year

Yeah... I hear ya.
Condo/HOA people (not all the residents necessarily, but the board and the old-timers) are a breed and they love chasing trouble.
You could really do a great job at minimizing amplified volume, keeping particularly low/rumbly frequencies down, keeping it no louder than neighbor conversations... that makes sense to us, we're musicians, we do live sound and recorded sound. But to your neighbors, at least some of them, simply being able to hear you play an amplified instrument may be problematic. Especially for people with nothing better to do.

you- "I was? I seem to recall playing, but I was watching Jeopardy and I could hear the tv fine..."
them- "sound carries here! that guitar you play is pretty loud, you just don't know how much it carries"
you- "what was it that you heard?"
them- "the guitar!"
you- "my bass?"
them- "YES! THE BASS! THAT'S WHAT IT WAS! SO MUCH BASS!"
You gotta remember, there are condo people and they are a whole breed. They will bring your trash out of the dumpster and put it on your doorstep because you didn't break it down enough. They will live little passive aggressive notes on your door about your potted plants.
Sennheiser HD650. Superb quality and open-backed so, if you get the balance of bass and TV volumes right you could enjoy both at the same time. I've been using them for years. Great for early morning and late night sessions. Can keep working without disturbing the family... (as long as the TV is off or muted at such times of course...)
I watched them don rubber gloves and tear into a trashbag that was put out before dark. Learned later their houses were egged and someone threw a Jerry Can filled with used motor oil into the community pool. It got so bad that they put a cop in the bushes at the community center at night. I went to drop off my Condo Fee in the slot, and the cop literally sprang from the bushes with his gun drawn. Never again: sold that townhouse and will never live in a community with a HOA again. It was insane. They pushed the residents into some sort of guerrilla warfare. It wasn't isolated either. There were numerous acts of vandalism and the individual running the board was eventually run out of the community and successfully sued. It was absolutely crazy.
Could be- Too funny! When i sold the place, they did an inspection and my doorbell was cracked. It was less than a month old - i swear it was fine- two weeks old. They charged $150 for the inspection and because they found something, I had to have it re-inspected. Another $150. Soooo glad to be outta there….My realtor was apoplectic.
Good Lord, I pray I don't run into those issues.
This place I've been to many times. Before we had our current house built, we had planned on moving there.
Especially where I'm moving specifically they are separate from the others.
I even bought my son a condo there as well for him to use when he goes to college.
Worse case I can always rent it because it's in a resort.
Im look forward to the slower pace.

For me, I prefer neutral sounding headphones so that they are good for everything. They also make it much easier to hear the bass in recording when learning songs (my HD280Pros tend to muddy up the bass, making it a bit indistinct to hear what I am trying to learn, the AKGs don't do that).
