Im really surprised no one had transcribed or done a YouTube analysis video of it yet, but I did a search and couldn't find anything.

Don't forget though - I was also suggesting he record his part with the song and play them back together. The multitrack audio editor solutions he and I talked about, including audacity with it's speed changing plugin, allow him to do just that, and listen back, pan to sides, compare his part to original, change levels afterwards, etc.

Yea, it inspired me sitting here to improvise some bass parts (sitting alone in my dining room, as usual these days LoL), in a similar-ish style.

Why not just run it through one of those apps where you can slow it down and still retain the pitch? I have Anytune on my phone, which works well for this. I'm sure there's a ton of other software that also does the trick. It's pretty easy to hear the basic idea at full speed, some kind of octave thing on the slap, but slowing it down to 40-50% or more will let you hear every note.

Or you could actually use your brain, keep your cognitive juices glowing, train your ear, and have a sense of accomplishment and some skills. What I hear are stock funk licks, nothing that difficult, but something that a player could throw their own spin on. The bassist is Doug Rauch, who replaced David Brown; he was more versed in funk/fusion; talented, but met an unfortunate end...

Reading the wiki on Rauch, I realize I've heard plenty of his stuff, back in the fusion days.

Lots of albums with killer players and cool licks hanging on the barest of structures. "Tape is running boys, whatcha got?"

Can you apply your knowledge of music theory to figure it out? Is the A minor or major, dominant 7? Do you know the Dorian scale? If you don't have that knowledge it makes it very difficult to learn every note without realizing the relationship between them.
