How to record from Ampeg

I just purchased an Ampeg that has a XLR output...I tried using it into my M-audio Fasttrack and found it wasn't sending the signal very loud. I tried turning the amp up and every possible way to get it to peak but it won't...I'm confused. Should I just use the headphone jack out? I don't really want to be recording with my amp blasting just to get half a signal.

I don't know much about this, but when you are channeling through an XLR output (I guess this is a DI output), it shouldn't really matter how loud your amp is, as long as your bass is turned up. Am I wrong?

The XLR out on ANY DI is at mic level and (usually) the interface is expecting line level! You need to pass that DI signal thru a mic pre before it goes to an interface. BTW, if the interface has a choice of mic or line inputs, use the mic in. Good Luck:

I have only two XLR cords and after trying the mic in I found that the levels are fine...Good information thanks...
