How to safely relax a coiled headphone cable?

I got some new headphones, Sennheiser 280. Their cable is coiled, which I think is nice, but the coil is pretty stiff right now.

I assume it'll loosen up and become easier to move around with after being used a while. Is there a way to expedite that process without breaking anything?

I gotta say I thought we'd be more concerned about this where we're always worrying about proper care and things wearing out or being misused. But apparently even the internet doesn't worry about stretching out coiled cables, so... cool!
