how to use logic as a looper

hello

looking for tips on how to use logic as a looper

basically I want to be able to start drums, add some keys, add my bass, add some scracthing or turntable stuff

does anyone use it for this?

will I need a midi pad to trigger record in the live looper?

Are you looking to loop as you record, or are you wanting to use Logic for live looping performances? If the latter than I would skip Logic and just grab a copy of Ableton Live. It’s the standard for live performance DAWs. If you want to stick with Apple for that application than Mainstage makes more sense than Logic.

As Silky has pointed out, MainStage 3 has a plugin called Loopback which is used for live looping. You'll need a MIDI foot switch or controller to do the Record/Play etc.

Yes that is how to cycle record but not as a looper. I want to see on the timeline how I add in each layer like you would with a looper

I still recommend foregoing Logic for this task and trying out Live or Mainstage. Have you had a chance to try them out?

I've used ableton before but still have the older version of live, and wouldn't really like to have to re learn something if logic can do it as I think the vst in logic are far better

Mainstage, I believe, uses the same built-in VST library (actually AUs) that Logic does, but is intended more as a live performance DAW. That could be the best option for your needs.

I know how to use live loops... the problem is if you are to record enable the performance you can no longer record into live loop cells and not do what I am looking to do
