How to walk a bass line/play latin lines (no bossa) on body and soul (I know it's a ballad)

Jeez. Well I guess to begin with, can you play a walking bass line on any other tunes? "Latin" covers a wide range of straight 8th rhythmic approaches, do you have a specific feel in mind? And what experience do you have playing Latin music? And what's this for, your own edification or the gig starts in 15 minutes?

I never walked a bass and I'm not planning improving them. I'm composing them. What kind of Latin tunes you recommend me so I can cop them from thr recording and us them on the tune. I have no plans on improvising. I have no experience playing Latin tunes. And I'm doing for a girl to sing to

You're not really asking a question that can be answered my man. Just type in 'Latin Jazz playlist' on YouTube and get a very general idea of what you want here then people can help you. Your question is kind of like asking "How do I make Mexican food?"

Otherwise, Body & Soul can be played as a slow bossa. I'm sure your girl won't care if you use a bossa pattern instead of a samba pattern or whatever.

I really don't care for bossa patterns. I know she won't care but I feel like I'm doing a disservice to her doing so (even though she's Italian). If it takes me 8 hrs a day to learn these styles I will. I'm not in a good state of mind right now and I need to make this special for her. I'm having a really hard time buying an upright bass with a soild monthly payment plan so i'm pretty bummed out about. I Need records, not necessary a latin playlist full of generic latin tunes. If it help, I'm a virtuoso bassist with a great ear, I have the chops I just need the guidance when it comes the these genres. I also have a great work ethic.

Well - if you’re an electric bassist, the thing that’s helped me over the years is comping the chord changes - on the electric bass. I assume you’ve got a real book or access to one. I try to think like a guitarist, bouncing from simple R 3 7 chord lines onto a basic 1-5 bass line in a very simple straight latinish type beat. Good luck - have patience - and happy new year.

Nah, I'm not comping chords on a Bass Guitar. I play electric guitar too, albeit I'm not really that good at guitar. I'm not really a patient guy at all. Real books are garbage, if you have any better chords for body and soul, post 'em. Also, REC ME SOME RECORDINGS!!!

:wideyed: really? then consider following the advice that you're getting from cats who know what they're talking about...who wouldn't do that, if they were panicked, and they had no clue......right?

I'm not really a patient guy at all.
you could post that two or three more times and i still wouldn't believe you!

here's your plan:
- play it as a bossa, anyway...
- then you don't need to walk it.
- root to five, half notes, follow the changes
- easy peasy
- she'll cry, so: take a handkerchief.

good luck!

next!?

How about searching for them yourself? Nobody here is going to have any better changes than a decent real book. Go figure it out if you don't like the advice you're getting here.

Stop posting then dufus. I'm not asking for chords, I already figure them out on some recordings, what I was asking from the guy is his own interpretations of his chords (there's nothing wrong with that). Don't fault me for not trusting the real book, they're many ways of interpreting the chords and I just have a bad time with them. Also there is nothing wrong with questioning/challenging there ideas.

You can start redeeming your dumbass by recommending some recordings. It's the least you can do. Same for everyone on this thread. How dare you accused me of being some ungrateful shat head. A lot thing are going in my life right now and im in the mood for some waffles.

Lol. Ok dude. Go interpret your chords over some waaaahffles.

Give me some good recordings for this kind of music, I'm not gonna cop the feel/rhythm from your text.

Los Panchos were a trio from NYC / Mexico / San Juan that started in the 40s. Very popular in the 40s-60s. They still exist with newer members. It's a great sample of the "bolero" (latin balland) style that suited mid-20thc ballroom dancers and listeners. IMO, Body and Soul would work nicely as that kind of bolero.

Thank you, That's what I wanted this whole time.
