How/Where to sell vintage 6 string guitar Tele Deluxe

You could look over at TDPRI, the Telecaster forum.

But I agree the better bet is to have a vintage dealer assess and maybe consign for you. It’s not pre CBS money but those are gaining now.

Good luck.

My pronoun is bass/bassist but HH Teles are the light and the way!

I second the recommendation of tdpri.com. Those folks will know what you have and the value.

if you’re thinking of selling it on Reverb and hesitating about the wait, let me offer this. My guitar-playing buddies are Telecaster fans and they are *constantly* trolling Reverb for more. Seems like they’re never satisfied. It’s funny to me, too. I fully understand the collecting of our bass brethren, but I keep thinking to myself, “Why does he think he needs ANOTHER Telecaster?…”. They’re not even very different from each other. But Tele guys just can’t seem to get enough. Go figure.

They’re a lot like motorcycles. If you’ve got room for three with safe space between them, you actually have space for fifteen on one side of the room and fifteen on the other.

Those original wide range humbuckers are badass and they’ve been reissued with semi correct magnets finally so, counterintuitively, they’re extra hot right now.
If I could swing it I’d be hitting you up, but clean it up and put it on reverb that’s a good one! It’ll sell fast at a legit vintage store too.
The ones I’ve seen have sold well out of my price range lately, the refin is really too bad but it’s an ok color and looks alright in pics. These are worth more than the single coil 70s models these were Fenders competitor for the les Paul custom. If I put this on Reverb I’d probably start it at $3500 which is a good deal if it hadn’t been refinished, but not really a good deal given it’s refin and broken toggle.
There’s a dude selling just the pickups and pickguard for $1800 which is really not very overpriced.

Elderly Instruments in Lansing will consign. I think the going rate is 20%. They also do appraisals. “Insurance appraisal” is for replacement cost. “Valuation” is for you selling the instrument on your own. They charge for both of these appraisals. Then there is “trade-in value” which is what your instrument is worth in a deal with them. No charge for that valuation. Selling it to them directly would be slightly lower than trade-in.

I appreciate all the input!! I understand the paint is an issue: it was rattle-canned over the original Olympic white, and had been on too long to take it off of the white. The toggle is there and works fine. I figured a top shop would want to refinish it with a super pro finish, but that’s STILL not factory, right? Alas, I’m glad I’m a bassist!!
I’ll be taking a real set of pictures and following the advice of several of you. A fella in Arizona gave me a quick verbal appraisal, of the form “twenty-five hundred to three grand, put it on Reverb and wait.” Since he charged me nothing, and his no-hesitation verbal valuation was in keeping with what I’m seeing generally, it appears it was worth more than I paid. Haha - he really was quick and fairly accurate.

Solid appraisal. I agree that's the ballpark
