hello,

how would a passive Fender Jazz bass sound with no tone control and just 1 volume control (controls both pickups)?

too bright and uncontrollable? dumb idea?

brighter, but "too bright" would be a judgment call based on what you're doing with it. if you're doing a grindy rock thing with a bit of compression on the signal, it can be a cool tone. a 250k pot would be a little brighter than stock, and a 500k would be just about "wide open" in comparison.

i would leave the tone pot in (which would also tame it down a little even when all the way up), so you could control things for different gigs.

yes, I agree a tone control would be a good idea. I'm now actually thinking of 1 volume and 1 Stellartone
