What's up guys. I've been lurkin' the heck out of this place for the past month, since I moved back to the states and started playing bass again. So here's my deal.
I joined a band when I was 13 years old, after watching 'The School of Rock' with two of my best friends. I drew the short straw and got stuck with bass. A month later I had my first Silvertone bass that I had ordered on the internet, and it came complete with an amp, tuner, and an instructional DVD. I watched the whole video the moment I found it in the box and I imnediately realized that I may have actually drawn the longest straw. I was hooked.
we started jamming everyday after school. After we jammed I would give out my email to any website that had free music videos (Yahoo Launch for example) and I would jam along to any cool line I could find. I found out that many of my favorite bands had pretty lame bass parts.
I brought up this quibble to my gutiar-playing friend one day and he showed me the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I ordered Flea's first bass DVD (which has sadly been discountinued) and waited impatiently. It came. I spent hours a day learning how to slap. I became good fast.
Fast forward 5 years (18 roughly). I became addicted to video games. My current band broke up. My awesome GK backline 210 broke. I stopped playing as much. I fell out with my parents and dropped out college (because of video games). I ran away from my problems and moved to another country.
1+ years after that (20 roughly) I got my life together again and started playing acoustic guitar every day (still overseas). I started writing tons of music and going back to college (for an unrelated major). 1 year after this I met an amazing girl and decided to throw caution to the wind and get married.
4 years later (24 and present day). Just moved back to the states 6 months ago with my awesome wife. Pulled out the old bass guitar and fell in love again. Decided to dedicate my life to music even if it means I'll be playing catch up for awhile. Wife fully supports it. Currently working at a music store and have a new band that I write for, play bass in, and gig with. I'm not rich, but I'm the happiest I've ever been in my whole life.
I didn't read any of the other introductions in here yet, but I hope this one works. I know it was pretty personal. I've been reading a ton of stuff on this forum the past month, and the community here seems so nice that I felt comfortable to just introduce myself like this!

So now for the burning bass questions going through my mind...
I get a solid discount from my employment situation (Guitar Center affiliate). I love the tone of the Rick 4003 that I've heard on high-quality recordings, and I'm looking for a new fretted 4 string. However, I've only ever played on my first Silvertone P and my 2005 Fender mim Jazz Deluxe. The Jazz is my current bass, and I definitely want a new one (for tone purposes) but I really like fast thin necks with medium-low action (not like metal bassist low, but low enough that i can get some real crunch if I dig in). I've never played a Rick, but how playable are they? Rather than start a new Rick thread, I figured I'd just tack this on here.
So anyhow, I'm excited to invite everyone on here to join me on my life-long bass journey! Any comments, questions, or tips are very welcome.
