Double Bass HPF-Pre: mount or on the floor

Hi,
I am upgrading my gig "rig" for double bass. New configuration will be:
piezo -> HPF-Pre version 2 -> tuner -> Phil Jones flightcase

I am wondering how to place HPF-Pre. I can put it into pedalboard but it is little ridiculous to have pedalboard with small preamp and tuner only.
Other option is to mount preamp to tailpiece and have tuner on floor. But I have no idea how to mount it.

How do you manage preamp placement for gig?

my fdeck sits right on top of the amp. i don't like mounting things to my bass. there is a possibility of extra vibrations off the bass.

also, i'd run the tuner through your effects send and not have it in the signal chain. some tuners add noise to your signal.

no pedal board....just get some velcro for the top of your amp.

I already had some velcro on my tailpiece from a prior preamp, so I stick the HPF on there (sideways so the jacks face down). It's so light I don't think it makes an appreciable difference in tone, PLUS I like the idea of a very short cable run between pup and HPF. YMMV.

Sit the gadgets on top of your amp, and loop the cable connecting the pickup to the fDeck through the handle of your amp, to avoid accidentally pulling said gadgets off the top of the amp.

You might also want to put the tuner in the effects loop, or feed it signal through the amp's preamp-out jack if you have one.

Running a tuner in-line to an amp can do weird things to your signal.

I use a PJB Super Flightcase but also own a Flightcase. To my ears, with my bass and through a Full Circle pickup, the fDeck sounds best in the FX loop. For this reason, I use dual lock to attach the preamp to the back of the amp and run two short cables to the FX send and return. YMMV.

I think the vibration/resonance of the afterlength and tailpeíece is a part of the bass' sound, and therefore in principle, I prefer to mount as little as possible here. My preamp is on top of the amp.

It depends on the circumstance. If I'm amplifying, it's probably going to get loud, so whatever difference the HPF makes on the tailpiece is minimal, and I'm probably going wireless, which means it should be before the transmitter anyway. But, I don't like having stuff attached to the bass that shouldn't be there, so I use a couple longer pieces of velcro which can loop all the way around and hold it in place without any kind of permanent attachment. Maybe one of these days, I'll have a beater bass for rockabilly and bars and a nicer bass for other things. Probably not, though, so it has to stay versatile.

Also, I don't think a diminutive pedalboard is ridiculous at all. It helps keep things safe and cables organised. What might be ridiculous is two pedals on a pedalboard that can take a dozen or more pedals.

If you figure the floor is where it's at for you, and all you need/want/have is a tuner and the Fdeck HPF-pre, then buy a small cutting board and lock 'em down with bicycle links or velcro. Even a scrap of plywood is fine. Take the Stones advice and Paint It Black, or get creative and varnish it with a coloured stain or a glitzy spray-bomb w/ metalflake. Better still... Use an El Kabong lunchbox!

Or you can spend a little more and buy a "pre-made" pedalboard such as the PedalTrain Nano (which is now discontinued, but can still be found new in stores).
