Double Bass HT 112 - New Speaker ?

Greetings. I am thinking about a New speaker .....thought I should maybe seek some advice first.
I have 2 Bergantino HT 112 8 ohm Cabs. one with the tweeter removed.
I thought I might change to a 4 ohm neodyn. speaker.
My goals are......to get more watts out of my Clarus 1 series II
from 120 to 200. and also to lessen the weight of the cabinet.
I only want to change one cabinet ...not sure if I need the tweeter or not ......
Any advice or personal experience in regards to this ...will be appreciated.thanks

You might try one of the EA Wizzy 12 cabs.... 4ohms and quite nice for DB... lightweight, mid voiced (which is usually good for DB), and they should handle your Clarus power at 4ohms with no problem.

+1 for some very good advice. I'll add that the Wizzy 12 or Wizzy M-Line are both significantly more sensitive than the Berg HT-112, which means they need less power to produce a given sound pressure level (SPL). A 3 dB increase in speaker sensitivity is equivalent to doubling your amplifier power.

I think you may have missed the point of the advice.

The Wizzy cabs are known to work well for DB use, while changing drivers in your Berg cab is an experiment, which may or may not work. My experience has been that you can try different drivers (which can quickly get expensive) and still not come up with something as good as a well-engineered design like a Wizzy.

Also you stated one of your goals is to get more watts out of your amp. The EA Wizzy 12 is 3 dB more sensitive than say an Eminence 2512 Deltalite II neo replacement driver (103 dB SPL vs 99.9). As stated previously, that is equivalent to doubling your amplifier power. That along with the Wizzy being a 4-ohm cab effectively makes a Series II Clarus a much more formidable amp.

Again. I am not interested in a new Cab.......
I am looking for a speaker replacement, neo 12 " 4 ohms.
That is similar in specs to the current speaker which is : 300 watts rms , sensitivity 97db anechoic: 2.83v/1m.......
So would this be accurate ....the higher the sensitivity the more power/ volume ??
would changing to a 4 ohm speaker affect the tweeter ??
or would that need some upgrading ?
If this is something that can not be done.. I will just stick with the Cab as is . Thanx again .

I don't have any experience with a neo 12" in that cab, but I did use an Aguilar GS series 12" speaker in my Ht112 for a while. Not bad at all. At leas 5-7 Lbs lighter than the Berg driver and more sensitive (louder) than the Berg, too. Not a 4ohm driver, but steps in the same direction. Both drivers appear to be manufactured by Eminence- they have identical baskets and cones.
Another thing to consider would be a new Bergantino "AE" driver which would be neo, but probably only available in 8ohms. I'd email Jim Bergantino and ask his opinion.
