Hudson Project Bass

Has anyone have any knowledge of these basses? I am looking at buying a new bass, and liked the look of the Hudson PBS4, but haven't been able to find any reviews on the internet!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and also any other ideas for a decent bass for Dub, Reggae, Funk or anything like that for a similar price.

Thanks in advance =)

Look at reviews of the Cort/Curbow basses. Looks to be the same bass with a different brand name.

Looks pretty cool. Definitely the Curbow design, but I don't think it's made like the Corts. The Hudson appears to be of all wood neck-through construction, while the Corts have a bold on neck, Ebonol fingerboard, and Luthite (synthetic) body.

Cort Curbow knock-off.

I don't think it was made in the same place, the Cort is made of luthite with a maple neck and ebanol fingerboard. The Cort is also bolt-on.

I'm pretty sure you could find a Cort for less.

True - I didn't check the specs, I'm just so used to seeing a factory make the same bass for 10 different companies. This one is probably still made in the same factory as the Cort/Curbow, just sourced with different materials.

Hmm, tough one to call. I played a Cort, it was nice. Never played one of those you linked to. Could be nice. If you are really going to mod it, all that matters is the wood quality and construction. Neck-thru vs. bolt-on is really a matter of opinion.

I played a Cort Artisan 6 string, one of the early ones bought it in 1998 and played till June when it got nicked out of my car. I have since replaced it with the 6 string project bass and now see the loss of my Cort as a blessing in disguise.

The project bass has a great sound, I leave everything in the middle on my amp and bass. The pre-amp in the bass is really powerful with eq for highs, lows and mids and gives me enough flexibility to alter the sound for different genres whilst gigging.

The other bonus for me is it is a lot lighter than other 6 strings but you do lose a little bit of balance because of this, after a long gig this is happy trade off for me.

Its a very light bass, plays nicely, very fast thin neck.

Good value for money

Downsides are; electronics aren't great, I'd get them looked at for long term use, especially the battery connector and some of the basses' frets aren't trimmed properly. (Doesn't take too long to sort that!)
