Hey folks, I have this Hofner travel bass, 30” scale, tuned low to high G, D, A, E. It has a single humbucker in the bridge position. I’m loving the 5ths tuning but the E string sounds pretty weak compared to the rest. It sounds balanced unplugged but not plugged in. I’ve raised the pickup on the high side with little improvement. What could I drop in easily to improve response? The humbucker is 3.5” x 1.5”. I would prefer not to rerout the body.

There's the DiMarzio Relentless Neck pickup, which might require a little bit of modification to fit. Its dimensions are:

3 1/8" wide
3 3/4" wide w mounting tabs
1 1/2" tall
Just over 3/4" deep.

Also check out TV Jones or perhaps other Hofner pickups.
