While I haven't used TV Jones Bass pickups I have used their Gretsch Filtertron style pickups on a guitar. He makes nice pickups. All hand made. Wish I could be of more help.
I have not used the thunderblades, but their reputation is good - search the threads.
As far as humbucking in general, all my gigging basses have humbuckers. The differences in tone onstage, once processed by a house PA, cannot be heard out front compared to a "vintage" pickup tone, and to get rid of the hum, and with the proper accompanying electronics and treatment, the rest of the electrostatic noise that usually comes along for the ride as well, is most worth it.
They have their own vibe. Definitely an old-school '60s type sound to my ears. Think Hullabaloo and Where the Action Is rather than MTV; or Phil "Fang" Volk rather than Flea or Jaco if that makes any sense. If you check YT there's videos.
If you like the sound of things like P90s and mini-humbuckers on guitars, you'll probably like the TV Jones Thunder series.
